Chapter 2 of 22
The University Of Cambridge Primary School, Cambridge, England. Marks Barfield Architects 2015
But of course, being Cambridge, you know when they thought about doing a primary school they kind of thought about it; it was interesting because the vice-chancellor said at the opening of the school (I hadn't realised that it was actually his idea) in thinking about (although I think other people had thought of it too) but thinking about a school not just as a school in isolation but because they've got the education department there of course, that it should be a bit like a research hospital. So, in a research hospital you obviously treat patients - that's your primary function - but you also are training up doctors and nurses, and you're doing research. So that's exactly the kind of thing that they wanted the school to be. There is actually a secondary, and they're called university training schools; so there is a secondary university training school in Birmingham, but this was the first primary one, so yes, we were very, very keen to get it and, and did.
