How did I get to Chateau Margaux? I go cycling with a group. We do a kind of epic ride once a year. They're interesting trips, challenging physically. The group is American, ex-Harvard, rowers, in private equity. There's one individual who organises this. Rick ensures that we always are steeped in the culture, the art, the civilisation, the museums of the places that we visit. So we go all around the world, big trips.
Rick's wife Odile was at school with a lady whose father bought Chateau Margaux and through this connection my wife and I find ourselves at Chateau Margaux invited by a combination of the owner, friend of Rick's wife and we're all there and we have a fantastic weekend. Incredible food, great wine, wonderful countryside, the architecture of Margaux created by Louis Combe in 1815, magnificent and just out of the blue Corinne, the owner, she inherited it very young from her father, started talking about some of the thoughts they'd had for expanding it, updating, bringing up perhaps the white wine up to the level of the red wine which is you know a legend although the white wine is also quite extraordinary, there's only one Margaux.
