Urban Mark, 1972

My architectural ideas are to do with change, they're to do with metamorphosis, they're to do with the linking of the natural with the artificial, with romantic things and with ordered things. This first slide is a scheme called the Urban Mark. I think it's a kind of watershed scheme in my work. It was made in 1972 and it shows a large structure with a strange kind of town draped on top of it. The town has prefabricated buildings, it has large tents with very soft and gentle interiors, it has very highly stylised buildings, obviously designed by architects, it even has platforms for people to come along and park their trailer or even just their sleeping bag. And it represents my own interpretation of mixed development.
